I have always wanted to ride on a drill team and when I watched the Mountettes ride in the Ravalli County Fair Rodeo three years ago I decided to give it a shot.  First of all I had to find a horse, second I had to find enough nerve to actually do it.  Little did I know of the emotion and dedication it would entail.  Through trial and tears and lots of encouragement from my friend and husband I survived and am actually looking forward to the upcoming year.  My Horse "Jake" surprised me and turned into a wonderful drill/trail horse.  Riding in the drill has made him a much stonger, better broke horse.  No more spooks!  Which has made the challenge of being a dedicated Bitterroot Mountette worth it.  I am looking forward to an even better 2009.

I have been riding horses all my life.  I have been riding in Mountettes for three years.

If there ever comes a day that I "don't" want to ride, life will really be a bummer.  If there ever comes a day that I "can not" ride, please just bury me quickly and deeply because my life is over!

Krista rode with the Bitterroot Desperado's in 2004.  In 2008 Krista was an asset to the Bitterroot Mountettes.  Since her young horse was in western pleasure training she decided to spend the summer riding with the Mountettes.  She borrowed a four year old horse named Suzy Q from Collette Maxwell and did an excellent job riding the drill.  Krista and Suzy did a one rein ride during the free style in the State Drill Team Competition without the judges even noticing.  Good Luck in the show ring in 2009.

Growing up on a farm with 6 older, rough and tumble brothers naturally made me an adventurous cowgirl.  They put e on a horse before I could walk!!  They also gave me the hardest to catch and most cankerous ponies to ride.  They also allowed me to breeze race horses.  In spite of my brothers, I grew up with a love for horses.

As a grown up (some would dispute that term!)  I became a wife, mother and eventually executive vice president of a savings & loan.  Ted and my family consists of our son, Heath and his wife Lenette and their two children, Catherine and Benjamin, and daughter Heidi, her husband Darius and their two daughters Karis and Elise. and son Lucas.    Heidi rode with us for a couple of years.  To my grandchildren I am known as "Gee Gee".

I joined the Bitterroot Mountettes in 1978, to ride and use my horse, compete and also to relax after stressful work days.  In the 30 plus years I have held several offices, including president, treasurer, board member, safety and skills and been on lots of committees.  This year I am the Vice President of our club and Treasurer of the Montana State Drill Team Association.

I have ridden numerous, always young horses all these years and have never missed a year riding or a performance.  Some of my favorite Mountettes horses are Twistie, Scottie, Too Much, Drifter, Willie, Shivers, Spirit, Rey, Savy and  last year Sasser.  The Mountettes have always been a release and a pleasure.

Several years ago, I "retired" from the banking business to pursue my life long dream of raising & training horses.  My retirement is now running C-Max Stables, a minimum of 12 hour days, 7 days a week. C- Max stables has exceeded Ted and my expectations tenfold.  Ted who also retired a couple of years ago now has full time duties keeping up with all that goes on year round.

Being this busy, I thought of taking a break and not riding with the Mountettes for a while,  Even thought I'm now riding all day, I found I missed the companionship, fun and challenge of riding on a team.  I hope to be able to be a part of the Bitterroot Mountettes for many more years.

2008 was my first year to ride in the group and it was...interesting.  It takes a lot of dedication, time and commitment but was worth it.  I made new friends and learned that the drill was a lot harder on horseback than watching from the stands.  I have ridden horses every since I can remember, competing in gymknhanas, horse shows, and high school rodeo.  Then came marriage and kids and the horse activities were put on hold for a lot of years but I am back!  I also team rope and hope to get more involved in that sport as well.  My friend actually approached me last year and to see if I would join Mountettes with her cuz she really wanted to ride.. she even supplied the horse..how could I not do it? "Dietz" proved to be a great drill horse..or ya..and a part-time saddle bronc!  Seems he wasn't real fond of spurs in his side...that was one practice night we won't soon forget.  I hope this next year proves to be even better with more riders and fun.

Hi.  I am Elarian, and I am starting my another year as a BRM member.  Time just flies when one is riding.  Horses have been a large part of my life since I was quite young.  I was born into an Eastern Montana ranching family and learned to ride when I was very little.  Rodeos were important during Junior High and High School.  the came college, marriage and those darned children!  Horses were relegated to farther down the time chain.  My kids (Julia and Jess)rode with the Russell riders (a Missoula, MT based youth drill team) and participated in 4H for several years.  After showing AQHA for several years with my daughter and after she went to MSU, I became interested in riding with the Mountettes.  That seemed like a fun thing to do and the ladies are quite a fun (funny) bunch of gals.  In the past years I drove from Missoula to Hamilton for practice once-twice-three a week but it was worth it!!  We recently moved to the Stevensville area, so I won't have to drive so far for practice.  I have been riding the "Gray Appy" the past few years, but she is hopefully going to raise a baby, so this year I am looking forward to riding a 5 year old dun mare, Abby.  My husband Rick drives for Baxter Trucking and I stay home to take care of the horses, dogs and cats.  there are so many I don't even bother counting.  Julia and Jess are both at home--don't children ever leave home anymore??  Julia is still into the horse scene and Jess is employed at Triple W Equipment (John Deere dealer) in Missoula..........
